FIREARMS APPLICATION
REQUIREMENTS
READ AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY
Fee schedule for both
FID and Pistol Permits are: $100.00. FID cards issued
for the purposes of carrying mace/pepper spray are $100.00.
Fees DO NOT APPLY TO CITIZENS 70 AND OVER. FID/Pistol
Permits expire in 6 years.
1. Massachusetts has made
changes to the fire-arms permitting process now known
as M.I.R.C.S. (Massachusetts Instant Record Check System).
This allows for a more complete background check to
be performed. All applicants for permits must make an
appointment and come in in-person to the Warren Police
Department and complete the required application in
person.
Due to the volume of applicants
and the processing time required, appointments are usually
scheduled for Tuesdays between 8 A.M. and 4 P.M.
A limited number of Saturday appointments are available.
Please call the Warren Police Department to schedule
an appointment. The process takes about 45 minutes.
2. Please contact dispatch
to set up an appointment to submit your application.
The appointment will be for submission of application
and prints/photograph. The number to call for an appointment
is: 436-9595.
3. A check or money order made out to “The
Town of Warren” for $100.00 must be Submitted
at the time you submit your application. Fees are non-refundable.
4. After applicant submits
application, background checks will be done to confirm
that there are no disqualifying factors. All records
are than sent to be processed with the appropriate state
agencies.
5. FID applicants between
the ages of 15 and 18, MUST HAVE A SIGNED LETTER
OF PERMISSION FROM PARENT. No new Pistol Permits
may be issued to persons under the age of 21.
6. First Issue applicants
for Pistol Permit are required by the Chief, to submit
three letters of Recommendation regarding your suitability
to carry a firearm, from un-related individuals. Individuals
writing the letters must supply their address and phone
number.
7. Under the provisions
under MGL, if you are not a current holder of a ‘VALID’
License to Carry or FID card; or this is your first
time applying for either a FID card or License to Carry,
(excluding FID cards issued for Mace-Pepper Spray) ALL
APPLICANTS MUST submit to the Warren Police Department,
a Certificate of completion of a Basic Firearms Safety
course that is certified by Massachusetts State Police.
A Hunting and Safety course that are offered by the
Department of Fisheries and Wildlife shall also satisfy
this requirement.
8. The State Portion of
the process is expected to take up to (8) weeks. You
will be notified by telephone when your permit has been
approved.
